. authorities are reporting that hamas rockets hit outside of that city. this is huge. it is the first time since 1970 that rockets have been fired at jerusalem. this new escalation, that's according to the newspaper in israel, but this new escalation comes after a failed cease-fire between the israelis and the palestinians earlier today. israel had said that it held off the bombing for two hours because egypt's prime minister was inside gaza meeting with hamas leaders and the palestinians for their part are denying that. they're disputing it. this week's fighting we know this has left more than 200 people injured. three israeli soldiers are dead, there are reports of civilian israelis dead as well and 24 palestinians killed in gaza and israel is amassing tanks near the border with gaza and called up 16,000 army reservists. let's get you straight to cnn fred plaiken live in jerusalem at this hour. this is extraordinary. what do we know? where did the rockets land near jerusalem and what is being said about this? >> ashleigh, you're right. it is extraordinary and very much out of the or

in gaza city for us. sarah, update our viewers. what's going on? >> reporter: we've been hearing this place pounded by air strikes. and we have also seen with our own eyes just behind me rockets from inside the city of gaza towards israel. so it is still continuing today in a very severe way. another round of air strikes and a few rockets coming out from gaza towards israel. we went around the city today for the first time we sort of got out into the city trying to see and talk to people who have been affected by these air strikes and trying to figure out where these rockets are coming from. i can tell you when i came out of the hotel this morning -- and we only got about a couple hours sleep because all night long there were huge bombardments. we were seeing our windows rattling. we had to crouch down, my photographer and i, had to crouch down in the room trying to get information out to cnn. once we got outside in daylight in the morning and in the afternoon when we looked to the sky you could see tons and tons, dozens of trails from smoke from the rockets that had left gaza ci

community, the death toll from the superstorm sandy here in new york city has risen to 43. and that additional person was a 77-year-old man who lived in this far rockaway community who died at a hospital as a result of the injuries he suffered after falling down the stairs. and you've mentioned that it's dangerous to get around. that's absolutely right. there is a very thick fog here. even a blowing mist that possibly you can see on the camera. you can't see really five, ten feet in front of the vehicle as you're driving through this community. now imagine the eight-foot sand dunes in the middle of the street from the sand that washed in from the storm just about two weeks ago. two elements of good news. first, the temperatures aren't as frigid as they have been after that snowstorm came through a few days ago. and, you can see over my shoulder, power is back on for some in this community. while on this side of the street there are lights for these people who are waking up in this community, but just take a few steps with me over here and i'll show you that this apartment building o

tell you. new york city is finally taking a very good idea, good lead from governor christie here in new jersey, because new york city today is starting its own gas rationing, just like new jersey has been doing for the past week. so that is meant to help to try to alleviate the very long lines that continue to be seen time and again throughout new york city and all the burroughs as people are lining up to find gas stations that, a, have power enough to even pump the gas once they get it. new york is starting to use the same system they have in new jersey, the odd/even plan according to your license tag as to when you can gas up. again here in new jersey, they've been doing this for the past week. and as we have been driving around the last several days, we have not seen any gasoline lines, or very short ones anyway. governor christie at a news conference said he has discovered the same thing, so much so that he might decide to lighten up the rationing or get rid of it. here is what he had to say about it. >> there's order. there's easy access to gas. we're continuing to use the n

sidner is in gaza city for us right now. sara, what is the very latest on this extremely tense situation? >> reporter: we have just heard moments ago, wolf, another air strike, a huge boom and then a black plume of smoke. you can actually see that with your eyes even though it is very dark here now. as we're getting information in just right now from that latest air strike, we are hearing that there are several people who have been killed. perhaps several children. we're still looking into that right now. this is just one in a series of air strikes today that have been a barrage of blasts all day long followed by huge plumes of black smoke. but we have also seen dozens upon dozens of rockets leaving this area and areas all along the gaza strip into israel. i want to let you hear that. city that's awash with those types of documents. documents that are still marked secret, although people pretty much understand they're not. well, if they're still marked secret they fall under these laws. so we're still left with that question. as someone that's in the practice in the field, i'll tell you that this is a troubling field because it's inconsistently applied. you often see the government coming down very heavily against journalists, whistleblowers, but then when someone like sandy berger, former national security advisor actually hit documents in his socks and took them out of a secure location, he ended up with just a simple misdemeanor so it's a very inconsistent field in terms of its applications. >> bob, one of the things i don't get is jill kelley, who this person is. on that 911 call, she's describing herself as an honorary general counsel. she has connections to all these generals who are e-mailing her thousands of pages of e-mails, and you know, she throws a party that general petraeus goes to, now she's got a high-powered lawyer and high-powered p.r. person.
